Shipping & Returns


Our standard product line ships within (6) weeks from date of order.  Smaller fixtures are shipped exclusively by UPS ground.  Larger fixtures or multiple fixture orders are shipped on pallets using various trucking companies.   A lift gate truck can be coordinated for deliveries to a residential job site.  Shipments to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, or Canada are available.  “Canada orders will also be charged broker fees and GST or HST tax that will need to be collected by customs prior to you receiving your shipment. The rates vary by province or territory.”  Contact Sutter’s Mill Lantern to coordinate arrangements and receive a special freight quote.

Free Shipping policy

Sutters Mill Lantern Co. is now offering “Free Shipping” on all orders of $100.00 or more and orders that are shipped in the contiguous 48 States. Contact us if you are not located in this area.  Large orders that need to be “palletized” and shipped by a trucking company do not apply for free shipping. Contact customer service for a special discounted freight rate.

Damage Claims

We take great pride in utilizing quality packing methods; however, we realize that our products may occasionally be damaged in shipping.  Upon receiving your order, inspect your cartons immediately and note any damage when signing for the shipment.  Open every box immediately as damage is not always obvious. Even if you do not intend to install your fixture(s) right away, you must inspect it immediately.  If you elect not to open a box for a period of time longer than three business days, you are assuming responsibility for any damages that may have occurred.  If your schedule does not allow for timely inspection, please contact us to make suitable arrangements.  In the unlikely event you encounter a problem with your order, please notify us within two business days. Save all cartons and packing material until your claim is resolved.


We want you to be fully satisfied with your lighting fixtures.  We work closely with you at the beginning of the selection to assure that the correct fixture is ordered. We encourage you to take advantage of our finish and glass samples and qualified staff if you are not confident with the specifics of your order.  We can also send you a detailed CAD drawing showing all of the dimensions of your fixture selection.

Due to the extensive amount of detail and production time involved in manufacturing a Sutter’s Mill Lantern fixture to your exact specifications, returned fixtures are subject to a 50% restock charge plus shipping costs back to the factory.  The balance amount of the returned fixture can only be used towards the purchase of new Sutter’s Mill Lantern’s.  Please contact Sutter’s Mill Lantern to discuss the details to acquire a return goods authorization, (RGA).  Lighting fixtures will not be accepted by our Receiving Department without an (RGA) number.  To return an item, it must be returned to Sutter’s Mill Lantern within three weeks of the ship date freight prepaid. (No Exceptions)  Returned items must be received by us in original condition and must not have been installed. Pack the item carefully in the original packaging, in the manner that it was shipped.  Items that have been damaged during return shipment are the buyer’s responsibility. For your protection, please obtain insurance on items being returned.

International orders

All orders shipped internationally are final sale and are not eligible for refund or exchange.

Custom & modified orders

Custom fixtures or standard fixtures that have been modified are not returnable for any reason.
